canada_maple_leaf.jpgThe RCMP have seized more than 4,500 counterfeit flatirons as well as fashion accessories passed off as Chanel and Gucci, nine iPods, a small amount of marijuana and $19,490 in cash.

The investigation began in March after a complaint from Farouk, the company that makes Farouk flatirons.

Farouk discovered that counterfeit flatirons were being sold under its brand name when an unsatisfied customer returned an alleged Farouk iron bought from an e-commerce site.

Other buyers who also believed they had bought Farouk flatirons complained after the products failed prematurely shortly after delivery.

In addition to 3,500 bogus Farouk flatirons, police recovered 1,000 counterfeit flatirons under the brand name GHD, a British company that does not sell irons in Canada. They also seized the counterfeit Chanel and Gucci handbags and the iPods.
