On the occasion of one-year countdown to Beijing Olympic Games (8/8/08), Beijing
Intellectual Property (IP) Administration launched an IP protection publicity
and education program on bus advertising displays, according to the State
Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO).
Focusing on the publicity of basic IP knowledge, Olympic Intellectual
Property Rights (IPR) and Beijing IPR, the three-month program will be launched
in the whole municipality in three phases.
According to AGIP News, Beijing IP Administration selected 351 buses in more than 80 bus
routes, covering the whole municipality and focusing Chaoyang CBD, Zhongguancun
Science Park, Shangdi Hi-Tech Park, Yizhuang Development Zone and places
concentrated with universities and shopping malls.
The advertising displays
inside these buses will be replaced by information like "protecting IPR and
cracking down on IPR infringement," "informants' hotline: 12312" and picture
posters of the IPR basic knowledge.
With the operation of these buses, these IP protection policies and knowledge
will create awareness of the importance of IP among the general public. In addition to the surge in patent filings by Chinese nationals, they are slowly but surely recognizing and protecting the IPR.
The Olympic games for China has been said to be the 'coming out' party for China to once again become a dominant world power. The whole world will be watching as to how the Chinese will be conducting themselves during these games. I certainly hope that it will be a tremendous success.
