tv-links-logo.jpgDavid Rock, a 26-year-old computer engineer from Cheltenham, says he didn't think what he was doing was illegal. Rock was arrested just over a week ago in connection with the closure of the TV-Links website, and released without charge.

According to thisisgloucestershire.co.uk, David Rock said

I'm not some master criminal. It was just a hobby. I've looked into the law and can't see what I've done wrong. If I thought I was committing a crime I would never have done it.

The TV-Links site allowed users to share links to various sites that host content from TV programs and films. Surprisingly, most of the content was not legit, and this attracted the attention of the local trading standards office.

I used to go to the site and I did enjoy it quite a fair bit to catch up on some shows I've missed. I did see some legal disclaimer on their site before that said that they host no content and just provide links.

He probably knows that hosting those content is definitely illegal and that linking to them would be harder for him to be found liable of copyright or trademark infringement. Although I'm just guessing here.

When will a good service where I can watch all my favourite TV shows anytime I want legally be available? I will gladly pay for that. I know NBC and many networks are now putting shows on their website but being Canadian, I seem to not be able to access most of them.
